What Is Hydro Jetting?

September 07, 2015

It may sound like a fancy new way to fly, but hydro jetting is actually an important service offered by professional plumbers to completely clean your drains and sewer lines without using harsh chemicals. In fact, all that is used is water. But the results of hydro jetting are evident, particularly after hydro jet cleaning is performed by the plumbing pros at Bronco Plumbing Heating and Air.

What It Is

If you've ever seen a power washer, then you'll have a pretty good idea of how a hydro jet works. The component has a long, thin hose that can snake far into your plumbing system, just as a regular plumbing snake can. At the end of the hose a head is attached that can spray water in 360 degrees. The water comes out at a very high pressure, typically 3500 psi. This high rate of water combined with the 360 degree head means a hydro jet can cut through all kinds of build-up in your drains and sewer line, including tree roots.

Accessing Your Plumbing

Your trained plumbing expert will access your drain or sewer line from certain access points on the piping so that the hydro jet can spray upwards. Spraying the water upwards allows the hydro jet to better loosen build-up and debris in your pipes, and also allows the water and waste and flow easily down the drain and into the sewer.

Benefits of Hydro Jetting

Here are some of the benefits a hydro jet can offer:

  • Complete cleaning - plumbing augurs can't always dislodge all of the build-up causing slow draining or clogging, but a hydro jet can.

  • Safe - because hydro jets use only water to clean, they are safe and effective.

  • Easily removes FOG and lime scale build-up - if you've had a problem with scale build-up in your plumbing system, or have clinging fats, oils and grease in your drains, they are no match for a hydro jet.
